IL BORESTA CHE NON TI ASPETTI – An exhibition of 6 episodes

Curated by Raffaele Gavarro

MICRO | Arti Visive – Viale Mazzini 1, 00195 Roma

Opening: 7th January 2021

Micro Arti Visive in Rome, is proud to announce the imminent start of the ambitious exhibition project IL BORESTA CHE NON TI ASPETTI. Six episodes that will retrace in six months (from 7th January 2021 to 31st June 2021) the artistic story of “the outsider among the outsiders), as Pino Boresta ironically calls himself.

Six exhibitions that will describe the artistic itinerary as unusual and decidedly out of the box of the art system, through exhibitions, meetings, surprises, and insights dedicated to what can certainly be defined as the precursor of Sticker Art, which for more than thirty years has invaded the walls of our cities with its expressions.

It is difficult to outline Boresta’s work to a specific genre, having spaced seamlessly and with fierce irony from painting to photography, from public art to performance. His work is determined by a real need to contaminate with different and often unusual languages, Boresta has accumulated over the years a number of works and materials, to say the least surprising. It started with the painted napkins in London, "Back front" in 1988, following the actions of artistic contamination of the "Body Residues" in 1996, passing through the "Testaments" in 2003, we then return to older works of 1995 the "R.A.U. Artelogical Urban Finds", and then to his best-known work of urban art, Sticker Art, which begins in 1994 with "C.U.S. – Search and Use Grimace", where its logo-face is stuck in the least predictable places of city streets. To conclude with "The collection" the works of the artist's friends.

“Il Boresta che non ti aspetti” is a series of exhibitions curated by Raffaella Gavarro a critic and curator – a very unexpected match that will design the entire artistic journey.

The first episode titled “Boresta a servizio” will open on the 7th of January. In the late 1980s, Boresta lived in London and worked in a restaurant. He began to approach painting as a self-taught. As a stand, he used napkins taken from the restaurants where he worked. The napkins-paintings took the title of Retro Front over time, due to the fact that those object canvases were painted on one side, while on the other they held biological traces of various types of Boresta himself. The organic elements later became exclusive matter along with body residues.

Each episode will see Boresta's personal belongings next to the exhibition of his works: diaries, photographs, documents, and various memorabilia. For such occasion, the waiter's uniform with which he served at the tables of London restaurants will also be exhibited.

For each episode, Boresta is invited to exhibit in the last week an artist chosen based on his affinity, esteem, friendship, and sharing of research.

The first two invited artists will be Flavio Favelli and Salvatore Falci in February.

The creation of a website created by Paola Valori will also enrich the exhibition with videos, interviews, and live talks. A virtual space closely connected to the exhibition.

The exhibition will be open to the public from the 7th of January 2021 with free and restricted admission according to the current anti-covid regulations.
